The Faculty offers a broad range of programs to a large cohort of international and domestic students, with 850 research higher degree students, approximately 1,500 students in postgraduate coursework degrees and close to 8,000 undergraduates. 

  • Among our academic staff (current and retired) we are proud to have 18 Fellows of the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia and 30 Fellows of the Australian Academy of the Humanities. 
  • The humanities and social sciences at UQ was ranked number one in Australia and in Oceania in the 2016 Leiden Rankings; 21st in the world in terms of the quantum of papers in ranked journals. The data set also places our disciplines 39th in the world in relation to the number of publications in the top 10 most highly cited journals. Combined, this shows significant research intensity and quality across the Faculty (and related disciplines at UQ).
  • Teaching in the Faculty is underpinned by substantial research performance - several specialised fields of research were rated at the highest level in the 2015 Excellence in Research Australia (ERA) exercise. These fields include Specialist Studies in Education; Political Science; Cultural Studies; Literary Studies; History and Philosophy of Specific Fields. 90% of our research areas were rated above or well above world standard. 
  • The 2015 QS World University Rankings ranks Social Sciences at UQ at 30th in the world, and Humanities in the top 50.
