Why Globetrotters?

There is no better way to develop many of the qualities that employers expect than to experience the world beyond your own environment - it helps you build confidence, resilience and experience new things that might help you realise what career prospects are available to you. We want to support students who show initiative to seek out extra-curricular international opportunities that are a bit ‘out of the ordinary’. This could include but is not limited to:

  • Conferences
  • Leadership programs
  • Research programs
  • Professional development workshops
  • Internships or field experience

Funding is available for undergraduate and postgraduate masters level HASS students for up to $1000. View the guidelines to find out if you're eligible and how to apply.

What our Globetrotters say

“Attending a French intensive language course in Cannes has only furthered my drive to improve my French. I learnt a lot about French culture, traditions and history. I am so thankful to have had this opportunity.”
Silvan presented a paper at the Australasian Post-graduate Philosophy Conference in Wellington. "I highly recommend any student whose never been overseas before to take advantage of these opportunities, even if you feel inadequate".
"I’m not exactly your off the shelf entrepreneur but I’m an entrepreneur all the same. An entrepreneur creates change and space for innovation, skills crucial for me to acquire as both a scientist AND as a communicator."

Travel has never been more important than in today’s globally connected world. It broadens horizons, breaks down cultural barriers and is a catalyst for building lifelong relationships. However, for many it remains out of reach.

To help answer the need for more students to access travel opportunities, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at The University of Queensland (UQ) has established the HASS Globetrotters Grant.

Help to empower humanities students at UQ to take advantage of rare, career-changing, transformative experiences abroad that come their way through passion, talent, and hard-work.
