An innovative multi-disciplinary program designed to train the next generation of leaders in global development.
The Master of Leadership in Global Development is the only coursework master’s program in Australia that combines development theory, leadership and management skills, and business acumen in the one comprehensive program, enabling you to gain the professional skills needed to lead the most challenging and complex development projects in local and international settings.
The program is aimed at mid-career professionals from across the globe working in government, NGOs and the private sector to encourage cross-sectorial communication and collaborative learning.
The multi-modal delivery provides a flexible and cost effective way to complete this program in less than 18 months. A core entry requirement for the program is the completion of the Leadership in Global Development MicroMasters®.  Once completed, you can apply for the one year master’s program delivered at The University of Queensland, renowned as one of Australia’s most attractive university campuses.

What is a Micromasters®?

An edX professional credential for online learners taking part in a series of courses from top universities.  Learners who complete the Leadership in Global Development MicroMasters series will earn an edX MicroMasters credential and meet one of the key entry requirements for admission to the Master of Leadership in Global Development program taught at The University of Queensland. 

As a learner in this series you will complete four university level online courses (MOOCS) and a capstone assessment. The courses are self-paced and you can enrol in them via edX at any time: Leaders in Global DevelopmentThe Science and Practice of Sustainable DevelopmentAdaptive Leadership in Development and Critical Development Perspectives.

MicroMasters are a fast, flexible and cost-effective way to gain a professional edX credential and gain a core entry requirement to the twelve month, on campus, Master of Leadership in Global Development program.


The MLGD scholarship was established in 2017 for applicants to the Master of Leadership in Global Development postgraduate coursework program, commencing in 2018. 

The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage and support international students from low to middle income countries with demonstrated frontline experience of working on development projects.  The scholarship is maintained by an annual co-contribution from the Institute for Social Science Research (ISSR) and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) and is valued at $36,688 (indexed annually) to cover EITHER:

·         Scholarship A) full tuition fees for the MLGD program for the year for which it is held OR

·         Scholarship B) a Living Allowance, Visa application fees, a Travel & Establishment grant, Standard Overseas Student Health (OSHC) cover and the UQ Student Services Amenities Fee (SSAF)


Capstone Assessment Course Scholarship:

The Institute for Social Science Research is offering up to five scholarships covering fees to enroll and verify in the first Leadership in Global Development Capstone course (starting on November 6, 2017).  The scholarship seeks to enable students to complete the Leadership in Global Development MicroMasters® Credential in 2017.   

Applicants must have verified in all four Leadership in Global Development Series courses and intend to enrol in the Capstone: Leadership in Global Development course via edX, commencing on 6 November, 2017.

The scholarship will be awarded to the applicant showing greatest merit as demonstrated by academic merit.
