Join us as Prof Ljiljana Saric of the University of Oslo presents a seminar on 'Visual Representations of Migrants during the so-called 2015 and 2016 Refugee Crisis'.

This talk is part of a larger study that focuses on the representation of migration and migrants in South Slavic media during the "migrant crisis" of 2015/2016. I concentrate on similarities and differences in visual representations of migration and migrants in the online portals of Croatian and Serbian public broadcasters. I focus on types of photographs with regard to the social actors and actions they show and hide, specifically examining images’ metaphoric, metonymic and symbolic dimensions and ideological effects, as well as how these images relate to verbal messages.
