Please view the recorded Semester 2, 2020 Welcome to the BA Zoom session here.

The Bachelor of Arts is a flexible degree that provides students with the optimal balance between a defined sequence of study and flexible course options. This innovative program has been designed to develop graduates with the key practical skills and interdisciplinary knowledge required to be the leaders of tomorrow.

The program will provide you with highly developed skills in written communication, problem-solving, critical thinking and interpersonal understanding. A BA graduate is someone who has gained skills and knowledge and can apply these skills in many different jobs, careers and life situations. You can choose from a wide range of majors, tailoring the degree to suit your own particular career aspirations.

First year plans

The program planner tool is designed to help you understand the BA structure and select courses that may be of interest to you in your first year of studies.

Please note that the program planner is a guide only and does not enrol you in your courses, you must enrol in courses through mySI-net.

In order to complete the BA program you must successfully complete 24 courses, which equates to 48 units (please note: at UQ, we call subjects 'courses' and most courses are worth 2 units each). Some of these courses will form your majors and some will be free electives where you can sample a wide range of courses offered at UQ. The first 8 units you enrol in must be from courses included in the BA Course List.

A student is required to obtain 48 units, comprising either:

The balance from electives from the Course List or other courses approved by the Executive Dean.

The Starting at UQ website provides a guide for completing your enrolment.

What courses do I need to do?

To ensure that students are familiar with their program rules and requirements we ask that all students complete a self-progression check in the first instance.
