Researcher biography
My research focuses on strengthening pathways for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students into and through higher education and collaborative research with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women who perform contemporary music. I publish across these areas and edited the 2014 book Collaborative Ethnomusicology: New Approaches to Music Research between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians. I am also Managing Editor of The Australian Journal of Indigenous Education working closely with Editors Professor Bronwyn Fredericks and Professor Martin Nakata. I am currently an Equity Fellow with the National Centre for Student Equity in Higher Education (NCSEHE) examining ways to strengthen and improve outreach programs for Aboriginal and Torre Strait Islander students. I continue to collaborate with Torres Strait Islander colleague Lexine Solomon and our current project focuses on exploring intercultural musical collaborations between Indigenous women and other women from diverse nations.
