Researcher biography

As an academic and PhD Candidate at UQ’s School of Languages and Cultures, my research area explores Australia’s transcultural connections with Japan through culture, literature, and film. My thesis analyses historical fiction which depicts Japanese civilian detainees and prisoners of war in Australia during WWII, at camps such as Cowra, Loveday, and Hay. I have written several articles for the academic news website The Conversation, and have a chapter featured in the edited collection Japan in Australia exploring the Japanese television show Monkey which enjoyed a cult following in Australia during the 80s and 90s.
