Researcher biography

I am a PhD candidate in the School of Languages and Cultures at the University of Queensland, where I am researching the dynamics of contemporary Australian literature in Japan from a Translation Studies perspective. I have been actively engaging with Japan for more than two decades, including 12 years in Western Japan, a Master of Arts in Japanese Interpreting and Translation from UQ, and work as a freelance Japanese to English translator. Throughout this time, I have often been fascinated by how Australia is imagined in Japan. My current research is an extension and exploration of this interest.
