UQ Student Services

Whether it's managing your studies, navigating around campus, finding a place to live or becoming accustomed to Australian culture – there are a lot of new experiences and "first times" coming your way when starting at university. UQ Student Services can guide you through a smooth transition into life at UQ and continue to assist at all stages of your program.  

UQ Indigenous Student Services

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies Unit provides a range of professional services and academic support for indigenous students wanting to come to UQ and while on campus.

The ATSIS Unit works closely with the Faculties, Schools, Central Units and the wider UQ community to provide a range of professional services and academic support for UQ’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. From pre-enrolment through to graduation, The ATSIS Unit can provide assistance with:

  • Admission to UQ, including information on UQ’s range of tertiary programs, pre-enrolment preparation programs and alternative entry pathways.
  • Orientation for new students to assist with the transition to University life and study.
  • Advice on scholarships, prizes, cadetships and student support payments.
  • Learning support and advice, including workshops, group sessions, tutorial sessions and individual consultations.

Student stories and experiences

Georgia grew up in Brisbane and is studying a Bachelor of Architecture. In this video, she talks about her experience of coming to uni and her advice to other indigenous students.

Chelsea, Graeme, Roianne, and Cass discuss their postgraduate experiences.

Noritta is from Thursday Island in the Torres Strait and completed a PHD in Social Work and Criminal Justice. In this video, she talks about her PHD journey, working in a university environment and her advice to other indigenous students.

The Desk

The Desk is a virtual tool designed to help you achieve mental and physical health and wellbeing, and build resilience to uni and life challenges. Find coping tools, take modules on mental health, and get help with a whole range of problems that you might be faced with as a student.
