A number of HASS staff have been recognised for their excellence and innovation in teaching and research via the recent announcements of the Australian Research Council as well as the 2019 UQ Teaching Fellowships and Innovation Grants.
The ARC announced outcomes for five schemes earlier this week.
Discovery Program Outcomes

Overall, the results are fantastic for the faculty with a total increase of ARC funding across the DECRA and DP schemes by nearly $900,000 compared to 2018. We offer our warmest congratulations for those staff who have been successful with their projects. Our commiserations also to staff who weren't successful this time.
ARC Discovery Early Career Researcher Awards (DE19)
We are pleased to announce the following DECRA recipient in HASS. The faculty success rate for this round was 15% (national success rate of 17.2%). UQ topped the awards nationally picking up 25 of the 200 DECRAs available. The total income to the faculty is $1.13m.

Of the 18 faculty led proposals submitted we are pleased to announce the following 4 projects were awarded. The faculty success rate of 22% success rate in this round (national success rate 22.4%), with a total of over $1.34m awarded. There are also 3 projects led outside UQ.

2019 UQ Teaching Fellowship
Congratulations to Associate Professor Kristen Lyons from the School of Social Science who was the recipient of a 2019 UQ Teaching Fellowship. Her project entitled “Developing Post Graduate Student-Led Engaged Learning Environments for Diverse Cohorts, including International Students” was awarded funding to the value of $50,000.
Teaching Innovation Grants 2019
Congratulations to the following recipients:
- Dr Mair Underwood (Social Science) was awarded a Teaching Innovation Grant (Extension Project), $53,975 (1 year): Assessment Ideas Factory: Improving assessment practice across The University of Queensland
- Dr Natalie Collie (Communication and Arts) and Dr Seb Dianati (Languages and Cultures) were awarded a Teaching Innovation Grant, $60,000 (1 year): Developing flexible digital assessment strategies for cross-disciplinary implementation
- Associate Professor Andrew Fairbairn (Social Science) was awarded a Teaching Innovation Grant, $60,000 (2 years): Microcredentialling, digital badges and the development of effective transdisciplinary professional learning across large degree programs.
