Japanese-born singer-songwriter and recent University of Queensland music graduate, Ray April, has released her first single Louder, through UQ’s in-house record label Corella Recordings.

Based in Brisbane, the young singer-songwriter graduated last year from UQ’s Popular Music and Technology major and now has her EP, Chasing Echoes, scheduled for release on May 23.

Recorded and produced at UQ via a Work-Integrated-Learning program, Chasing Echoes is an example of the world-class work that comes from the UQ Music program.

April hopes her emotive brand of indie pop acts as an “encouragement anthem” for everyone who presents a strong façade but doesn’t always feel that strength internally.

With her enchanting, atmospheric sound, each of the five soulful indie-pop tracks on the EP is dedicated to one of Ray’s close friends.

She hopes that, through Chasing Echoes, her listeners will be introduced to the distinct worlds that each of her friends has forged for themselves, where they'll recognise the unique essences that she sees in them.

A musical storyteller, Ray April explores different personas and crafts dreamy worldscapes through her songs.
