What to Expect
This is a student-led conversation, we anticipate exploring themes such as:
What can students do with their Sociology studies?
How are the knowledge and skills gained from your Sociology studies applicable to real life careers?
What can students learn about the expectations of the workforce, and how it compares to their experience as a university student?
Through your booking and in the session, you will have the opportunity to ask questions to leading industry professionals working in relevant roles and hear their experiences, stories and advice.

Meet our Panel

Yasmin graduated as Valedictorian in 2023 with a Dual Degree in Communications majoring in Public Relations and Arts majoring Sociology. Her lifelong curiosity about people and society led Yasmin to devote her career thus far to community-centred work, advocating for the welfare of marginalised communities. She currently works as a Marketing Assistant at place-based non-for-profit, Communify Queensland, managing their digital presence via social media channels, newsletters, and blog writing. Building on her Sociology background, Yasmin has commenced a Graduate Certificate in Urban and Regional Planning at UQ this semester to expand her interest in place-making and hopes to move into Urban Development and Planning.

Brittany Tucker, Senior Policy Advisor, Department of Transport and Main Roads Brittany graduated in 2021 with a Bachelor of Economics and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours – Class I) (Sociology). She is a public policy professional in the Queensland Government with experience across departmental and ministerial portfolios of agriculture, resources and critical minerals, and transport. She is a passionate public servant who wants to leave Queensland a better place for our silent stakeholders: the air we breathe, the land we walk on, the water we drink, and our unborn future generations. Brittany is currently working as a Senior Policy Advisor in the Department of Transport and Main Roads to progress Queensland’s Zero Emission Vehicle Strategy and other climate and decarbonisation projects in the department.

Roberto (he/they) is a multi-disciplinary designer with a key interest in User Experience Design and Graphic Design. They completed a Bachelor of Arts (Sociology & Writing) in 2020, and a Graduate Diploma of Interaction Design in 2022. Roberto works as a User Experience Designer and Researcher for the Australian Public Service, and their work focuses on ensuring products and services are usable, accessible, and enjoyable for the Australian public. Additionally, Roberto works as a freelance graphic designer, creating digital and physical artwork for a variety of local business, musicians, and event organisers.

Heidi graduated with Class I Honours in a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) (Sociology) in 2018. As a Research Assistant for UQ and Life Course Centre, she honed skills in social research, data management and analysis, and designing and implementing data collection. Heidi currently works as a Consultant in the Environment, Society, and Governance space at Worley – a global company with a commitment to leading the energy transition to sustainable sources.
