- What should students interested in Museum Studies careers do to enhance their employability during their university studies?
- How are the knowledge and skills gained from Museum Studies applicable to real life careers?
You will have the opportunity to ask questions to leading industry professionals working in relevant roles and hear their experiences, stories and advice. The session will end with an informal networking opportunity.

Meet our panel
Nadine is an educator and contemporary artist who has worked in learn and engagement for over ten years. Nadine holds a Graduate Diploma in Secondary Education (Visual Arts) and has experience in the development and delivery of programs and resources for primary, secondary and tertiary audiences. She has worked across curriculum areas, including Visual Art, Design, Fashion, HASS/History, Science, English and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures. Currently, Nadine is Education Manager for the Institute of Modern Art. Prior to this she was Learn Curator at Museum of Brisbane and Workshop Coordinator for Reverse Garbage Queensland.
Dr Liz Bissell is the Senior Curator, Queensland Stories, in the Cultures and Histories team at Queensland Museum. Liz has an academic background in Australian Literature and History and over 20 years’ experience in research with a focus on Queensland identity and culture. Prior to her work with QMN, Liz spent ten years undertaking genealogical research for the Department of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships including a key role in the delivery of the stolen wages Reparations Scheme. She also brings a range of other skills and experiences from her work across the cultural sector.
Alison McKay, Community Programs Coordinator, Ipswich Art Gallery, Ipswich City Council
Alison McKay is an emerging artist, arts worker, and trained secondary school educator. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts with Honours (QCA, Griffith University) and a Masters in Secondary Teaching (QUT). Alison is currently responsible for the development and delivery of local artist exhibitions and programs at Ipswich Art Gallery. This includes active engagement with the local arts community, management of the Community Gallery, and delivery of inclusive community-building initiatives that cater to diverse audiences. Alison is passionate about developing and delivering programs and education resources that feature local artists to highlight the role art plays within the broader community.
Lucy Quinn, Curator Engagement, Museum of Brisbane With two decades of experience across the arts sector, artist and curator Lucy Quinn has honed her skills in some of Australia’s most respected cultural institutions, including the National Gallery of Australia, National Portrait Gallery, Australian National University and Museum of Brisbane (MoB). With a firm focus on enhancing arts access and learning opportunities across a variety of audiences, Lucy's diverse expertise incorporates practical skills with an egalitarian approach to creating museum-based experiences. She enjoys creating innovative and inclusive engagement opportunities for multi-generational audiences and working directly with creative practitioners. Most recently this has included curating MoB’s Play Moves a ground-breaking participatory exhibition, and in 2023 and 2024 Lucy is curator of Botanica: Contemporary Art Outside situated in Brisbane’s City Botanic Gardens.
Effie is the Registrar (Loans & Acquisitions) at UQ Art Museum since 2019. Prior to this, she held roles as Exhibitions Registrar and Registrar, Preservation Services at State Library of Queensland from 2005. With nearly 30 years of experience in Queensland's arts and cultural scene, Effie has been integral in delivering over 120 exhibitions, from ARI's to coordinating international and national exhibitions, and organizing exhibitions in regional and remote communities. She also coordinates the SEQRN (South East Queensland Registrar Network).
Effie holds a Graduate Certificate in Management Arts Administration and an undergraduate degree in Bachelor of Arts (Visual Arts) with a major in Ceramics. She is a passionate member of Clayschool for nearly a decade, finding joy in creating clay objects. Additionally, Effie has served on the board of the Queensland Potters Association and contributed to organizing conferences, including the 2001 MAGSQ and 2014 ARC (Australasian Registrars Committee) Conferences. She earned a Diploma in Law and Collections Management with Distinction from the Institute of Art and Law, UK, in 2014.
Morgan Strong, Digital Transformation Manager, Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art Morgan Strong is the Digital Transformation Manager at the Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art. Morgan has been working with technology in the Gallery, Museum, Archive and Museum (GLAM) sector for nearly 15 years and collaborating with institutes across Australia. Morgan's work focuses leveraging technology to create meaning from Collection data, and improve the way museums can embrace digital to improve the way they do their work.
