Platforms! A workshop with Marc Steinberg
Since 2010 there has been a wave of scholarship which conceptualise 'platforms', 'platformization', and 'platform capitalism', including Marc Steinberg's work on platform capitalisms and cultures - from automobiles, to super apps, to convenience stores - especially across Asia. The notion of the platform became a fundamental, but taken for granted, concept in the field. But platforms are not neutral. They are characterised by constantly shifting forms, cultures, politics and geographies. In this all-day workshop, led by Marc Steinberg, we take a pause to reinterrogate the complexities of platforms and platform scholarship.
