Bangladesh at a Crossroads: Assessing Atrocity Risks and Advancing Atrocity Prevention Strategies
Bangladesh's political transition offers a chance to strengthen democratic governance, but also risks heightening identity-based violence, political repression, and mass atrocities if left unaddressed. Such transitions often expose longstanding grievances and institutional weaknesses, making early risk assessment and timely prevention critical.
This webinar brings together scholars, policymakers, practitioners, and civil society to examine Bangladesh's evolving political landscape and discuss how emerging atrocity risks can be identified and addressed before escalating. It aims to encourage evidence-informed analysis, strengthen stakeholder collaboration, and explore practical strategies for protecting vulnerable communities and supporting democratic transition.
The event also marks the launch of two APR2P reports: Bangladesh Atrocity Risk Assessment: The Challenges Ahead for the New Government, which identifies key atrocity risks in the current political landscape, and Preventing Atrocity Crimes in Bangladesh: Eight Strategic Priorities for a Fragile Democracy, which offers practical recommendations for policymakers, civil society, and international partners.
