Join us as we host a panel Q&A discussion with a number of Arts/Law graduates to discover what pathways they have taken after they finished study. This session aims to help Arts/Law graduates identify some of the pathways open to them through discussions with alumni.
Some of the areas likely to be covered during this session are:
- What are some of the pathways open to Arts/Law graduates?
- Should I do further study in Arts or Law to help improve my employability?
- What avenues are open to someone who doesn't want to practice Law, but still use their Law degree?
- What sorts of experiences would you recommend an Arts/Law student seek while studying to help their employability?
The panel:
Anusha Goonetilleke - Social Security and Tenancy Program Manager, Canberra Community Law
Recently Anusha has moved into the role of Social Security and Tenancy Program Manager. For almost five years prior, Anusha was the Supervising Solicitor of Street Law, an outreach legal service of Canberra Community Law which helps people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
Anusha started off her legal career working in private practice at Dibbs Barker, Master Builders Australia and MinterEllison predominately in employment law. Anusha then spent two years working at local community legal centres in Vanuatu as part of the Australian Volunteers for International Development program. This is where Anusha developed her love for front-line legal work to help people who otherwise would not be able to access justice. After Vanuatu, Anusha co-ordinated the Regional, Rural and Remote program at LawRight (formerly the Queensland Public Interest Law Clearing House).”
Ashley Sayle - Treasury Analyst in Agency Policy and Partnerships, Queensland Treasury
Ashley Sayle graduated from UQ in 2018 with a Bachelor of Arts / Laws majoring in French. Ashley went on to complete his Practical Legal Training before joining the Queensland Treasury Graduate Program. During the Graduate Program, Ashley completed rotations in the Economics, State Revenue and Commercial divisions. Ashley is currently working as a Treasury Analyst in Agency Policy and Partnerships.
Jo Williams - Employability Specialist (Law), BEL SET
Jo has more than 10 years of experience recruiting talent across a variety of industry sectors, most recently law. She brings a strong understanding of recruitment processes and the many career paths available to our future legal professionals.
In addition to her recruitment experience, Jo has worked within the training and development sector and the marketing and hospitality sector, enabling her to advise students on a broad range of employment opportunities.
Jo has an interest in the future of legal practice and actively engages with students to help them make informed decisions about their career in law. She also uses her recruitment knowledge to help students improve their employability through resume and interview coaching.
