Picking a major is not only a tough decision, but a life decision. I enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts program unsure of what to choose as a major. After browsing a course guide similar to the one you’re reading now, I found a course titled Looking at Art, but what I really found was a discipline that allowed me to explore the ongoing significance of art as a platform for shaping and interpreting the world in which we live. With no intention of having a career in the arts, I continued to study Art History, eventually graduating with an extended major and Honours. While studying, the UQ Art Museum allowed me to gain practical skills in an art museum, and that combined with my degree led me to my first role at Philip Bacon Galleries, Australia’s leading commercial gallery, and a career that I am deeply passionate about.
