Postgraduate Orientation

Welcome to your postgraduate orientation for the Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (HASS).

Welcome to HASS

Orientation is your introduction to HASS and is designed to give you the information and tools you’ll need to kick start your degree at UQ the right way. We’ve broken it down into steps for you.

To stay up to date with HASS news, events, and opportunities, follow us on HASS Socials.

All commencing HASS Postgraduate students will receive a series of emails from 18 June leading up to O-Week including registration links to attend your compulsory sessions.

HASS Orientation Essentials

Step 1: Attend pre-orientation sessions

Get ready for a successful start to your university journey! Join our pre-orientation sessions, where you’ll learn about enrolling, timetabling, and essential systems. These pre-orientation sessions will be conducted via Zoom. Click the links below to register

Step 2: Attend the HASS Postgraduate Welcome

The HASS Postgraduate Welcome is a networking event designed to connect you with fellow postgraduate students and introduce you to the support services available within HASS. Plus, enjoy catered refreshments!

  • HASS Postgraduate Welcome
5pm-7pm (AEST), Monday 15 July 2024, UQ Centre (27A), St Lucia campus
    Register to attend

Step 3: Attend your Program Information Session

Each HASS program coordinates a Program Information Session within Orientation Week, which is compulsory for new HASS students to attend.

These sessions offer an introduction to academic life, providing insights into your specific field of study and opportunities to connect with peers and support services before starting your classes.

Find your Program Information Session here.

Sessions are marked as compulsory because they offer a valuable experience for new students, but attendance is not mandatory and you won’t be penalised for not attending. Slides from the sessions will be posted on the HASS Orientation website after Orientation Week.

Step 4: Attend personalised faculty advising session

Drop-in advising sessions are available during Orientation Week (O-Week) for all commencing Undergraduate and Postgraduate students enrolled in HASS programs. Chat directly with one of our experienced Faculty Academic Administrators to help you navigate your academic journey.
