The Interim Treaty and Truth Telling Body (ITTB) has been laying a foundation for Truth and Treaty which includes engagement with “memory institutions” (the ITTB term for libraries, archives, galleries, museums etc) since 2022.
On 26 April 2024, the Truth-telling and Healing Inquiry and First Nations Treaty Institute were established, marking the commencement of the Act and the conclusion of the ITTB’s program of work which will now be carried forward by the First Nations Treaty Institute Council and Truth-telling and Healing Inquiry Members.
UQ alums and former and current staff members feature among members of the new Truth-telling and Healing Inquiry and First Nations Treaty Institute, announced recently by the Queensland Government.
Mid-year we can expect to see the release of two critical documents:
- The Queensland Truth-telling Strategy which will provide a long-term vision and roadmap that supports truth-telling.
- The Community Guide which will help Queensland communities design, develop and deliver truth-telling activities in accordance with local aspirations.
Through participation in the series of consultation workshops, UQ Library received early drafts of the Strategy, Guide, and Implementation Plan.
