Shining stars in School of Education

Rhonda Faragher and Kim NicholsCongratulations to Dr Rhonda Faragher and Associate Professor Kim Nichols from the School of Education who have both been awarded prestigious positions recently.

Dr Faragher was elected a
Fellow of the International Association for the Scientific Study of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IASSIDD) and Associate Professor Kim Nichols has been appointed as the new Co-Editor-in-Chief (from January 2020) of the Research in Science Education journal.

Dr Faragher’s Fellowship was announced at the recent world congress of IASSIDD; where she was recognised for her contribution to the field of intellectual disability, particularly with respect to Down syndrome, and her service to the organisation.

She is the Co-Editor in Chief of the Association’s journal, the Journal of Policy and Practice in Intellectual Disability; Chair of the Special Interest Research Group (SIRG) on Down Syndrome; board member of the IASSIDD Academy on Education, Teaching and Research; and an executive member of the Quality of Life SIRG.

Associate Professor Nichols’ appointment with the Research in Science Education journal will see her head up one of the top four international science education research journals in the world, ranked Q1.

The journal originated as a publication of the Australasian Science Education Research Association conference but is now published by Springer.

RISE has been an ISI listed journal since 2003 when it joined Journal of Research in Science Teaching, Science Education, and International Journal of Science Education as the major international science education research journals.
