To believe that I was chosen to study in one of the most respected and well known Australian universities is a dream come true.

Why did you choose to study at UQ?
I chose UQ because is it not only of the best universities in Australia, but also amongst the top 100 universities for social sciences in the world!

What is the best thing about studying at UQ?
To me, every single aspect of studying at UQ is filled with near-incredulity. To believe that I was chosen to study in one of the most respected and well known Australian universities is a dream come true. The campus, the students, the material I've learnt, and the connections I've made have changed my life forever and I am extremely grateful for that.

What is special or unique about your program?
The Bachelor of Social Science program is incredibly freeing, as it covers so many topics, you have the pleasure of choosing which call your attention the most - to me, particularly, the subjects of development, international relationships, diplomacy, and politics are extremely fascinating.

What will you do after you graduate?
In the future I wish to return to my home country of Colombia and work for a multinational development fund aimed at helping the impoverished people of Latin America. Furthermore, I would eventually like to launch and manage my own evaluation/analysis firm.

What advice would you give to international students who are considering studying at UQ?
Other than preparing for Brisbane's crazy-hot summers I would encourage them to fill their times to the brim - participate in all the incredible opportunities UQ offers, from networking to social events. This will surely enrich your experience beyond your wildest dreams.

What challenges have you came across in your study? How did you overcome them?
I believe my biggest challenges have been my greatest opportunities to learn - taking my first course on macroeconomics was really scary and frustrating, and I believed I wasn't good enough to do all the necessary work. Through hard work and dedication however, I managed to survive my anxiety and produce high grades.

Why did you choose to study in Brisbane?
The University of Queensland has always been my first option.
