Connect with HASS

Creative and independent thinkers from a variety of disciplines and with an interest in the arts and humanities can come together in some of the Faculty Friends societies. These groups are open to any interested and passionate people, including alumni, students, staff and the general public. Find out how you can get involved below.

The Friends of Antiquity was established in 1988 as a special interest group to support the Classics and Ancient History Department (now the discipline of Classics and Ancient History in the UQ School of Historical and Philosophical Inquiry).

The Friends also maintain a strong association with the R. D. Milns Antiquities Museum, through the purchase of many important artefacts, and their monthly Sunday Series lectures on topics from the ancient world.

The Friends of Antiquity aim:

  • to provide an informal social environment in which all lovers of history, art and literature of the ancient world can gather to share their enjoyment of antiquity with like-minded enthusiasts;
  • to raise funds for the continuing award of The Betty Fletcher Memorial Travelling Scholarship;
  • to assist the Division of Classics & Ancient History in maintaining its high profile, both outside and within the University, in the form of public lectures, seminars, courses and exhibitions to support it in the purchase and researching of acquisitions for public display in the R. D. Milns Antiquities Museum
