Climate Justice: A Brazil, India, Africa and Pacific Comparative Roundtable

Presenters

Dr Pedro Torres is an expert in urban planning and climate change from the University of São Paulo (USP). With wide experience in interdisciplinary research and projects involving policy, inequality, and social dimensions of climate-water-related issues, he was involved in the experts' review group of 10 New Insights in Climate Science 2019, published by Future Earth and the Earth League. He is a research fellow of the Earth System Project and IPCC Expert Review (report AR6, WG 2). 

Professor Pedro Jacobi is from the School of Education and the Graduate Program of Environmental Science at the Institute of Energy and Environment at the University of São Paulo. He is also a member of the Division of Management, Science and Environmental Technology at the Institute of Energy and Environment.

Associate Professor Jagjit Plahe from the School of Management, Monash University, has a background in trade and development in the NGO sector in Nairobi and Melbourne and works with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in Nairobi on the Global Environmental Outlook Report. She researches international political economy of trade, global food security, agri-food production networks and the management and organisation of equitable and sustainable agri-food systems through agroecology.

Robyn James is the director of Gender and Equity for The Nature Conservancy. Over a 20+ year conservation career, Robyn has developed deep experience in gender, equity and social justice, community-based conservation, philanthropy, and government policies and programs. Previously, as Melanesia Conservation Director, Robyn worked with teams focused on expanding sustainable and equitable livelihood development and better inclusion of women and others in conservation and development.

Professor Ove Hoegh Guldberg is Professor of Marine Studies at The University of Queensland. He was the Founding Director of the Global Change Institute (details here) and is Deputy Director of the Centre for Excellence in Coral Reef Studies (www.coralcoe.org.au, since 2006) and Affiliated Professor in Tropical Marine Biology at the University of Copenhagen (2016-present). Ove’s research focuses on the impacts of global change on marine ecosystems, and he is one of the world’s most cited authors on climate change.
