Celebrating Excellence: Meet the 2025 UQ Alumni Award Winners

The University of Queensland proudly honoured the 2025 Alumni Award recipients at the prestigious Courting the Greats ceremony recently.

These awards span 9 distinguished categories, recognising UQ alumni who have demonstrated exceptional achievement in their careers and made meaningful contributions to their communities. 

This year, 15 remarkable individuals were celebrated—including 5 from the Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (HASS)—for their impact across diverse fields such as international diplomacy, media, cancer research, native title law, entrepreneurship, and literature.

  • Quinn Jones (Heritage consultant and archaeologist): Awarded for outstanding academic achievement and contributions to cultural heritage preservation in partnership with community.
     
  • Hannah Ferguson (Media leader and founder of Cheek Media): awarded for pioneering accessible, critically engaged media that advances insightful social  commentary and engages diverse audiences.
     
  • Her Excellency Winnie Kiap CBE (Eminent Papua New Guinean diplomat and global leader in governance reform): awarded for distinguished diplomatic service, championing gender inclusion and elevating Papua New Guinea’s international profile.
     
  • Elizabeth Jameson AM (Leading governance consultant; Non-Executive Director of The Creche and Kindergarten Association): awarded for outstanding service to education, the arts and community governance.
     
  • Lis Wiehl (Best-selling author, former federal prosecutor and legal analyst): awarded for excellence in legal analysis and contributions to literature.
