In response to extensive student and industry feedback a new 3-year Bachelor of Criminology and Criminal Justice (BCCJ) program will be offered for students commencing in Semester 1, 2023.

As a continuing Bachelor of Criminology and Criminal Justice (Honours) (BCCJ(Hons)) student please be assured that you will be able to complete your program requirements and we are here to assist you with planning your enrolment.

4. I am thinking of changing from the Bachelor of Arts (BA) to the new BCCJ/BA. What should I consider?

If you are an existing Bachelor of Arts (BA) student who is considering a change into the new BCCJ/BA dual program in 2023, you should first consider the following:

  • How many units of study you have already completed. We will try to maximise transfer of credit if you change to a 2023 program however it might not be possible to credit all courses you have completed.

  • You will no longer be able to undertake study in the areas of Criminology or Legal Education Studies as part of the BA component of the dual degree.

  • You will be required to follow the 2023 program requirements for the dual program – If you commenced your BA prior to 2021, you will be required to complete either two Majors or an Extended Major and a Minor. Students will not be able to complete the previously offered a Major and two Minors or a BA Extended Major and 8 units of BA Listed Electives structure options.

  • If you commenced your BA prior to 2021, please note that some extended majors, majors and minors were discontinued in 2021 and will not be available in this new 2023 BCCJ/BA dual program.

  • Your fee rate may change to reflect the fees relevant to the year of commencement in the new program. Changing to a new program will have fee implications for students who commenced before 2021 as the Federal Government introduced significant changes to the calculation of student fees. Pre-2021 students who change to a new program will be subject to the new fee structure. Please view the unit of study fees schedule for further details. This will apply to both programs should you switch to the dual program.
