HASS Connect Mentoring Program

Build Confidence. Broaden Understandings. Make Connections.

The HASS Connect Mentoring Program brings you together with industry professionals from many diverse careers.  Work with your mentor to explore your career pathways and get practical advice on how you can start living it.

Students

If you’re:

  • Enrolled in a HASS undergraduate degree (including dual degree students and honours students); and
  • In your second year or above (have completed at least 16 units in your program)

Mentors

If you’ve completed a degree in any of the following areas:

  • Communication and Arts
  • Education
  • History and Philosophy
  • International Relations and Political Science
  • Languages and Cultures
  • Music
  • Social Science

Work with your mentor one-on-one to build your confidence in:

  • Identifying career pathways
  • Building your professional networks; and
  • Articulating how your skills transfer to the workplace

The program runs throughout each semester (February to June and July to October) and will include:

  • Induction to mentoring
  • Strengths workshop
  • Initial connection with your mentor
  • Networking launch event
  • Regular mentoring sessions
  • Reflection and feedback
  • Celebration

As a mentor, you will help students navigate the transition from university to work.  You will develop your communication and leadership skills and broaden your professional network while giving back to the UQ community.

The program runs twice throughout the year (March to June and August to October) and includes:

  • Launch networking event
  • Regular mentoring sessions - at least 4 x 1hr meetings over the semester
  • Feedback via online survey
  • Celebration networking event
