From classical to contemporary soundscapes, join us for a festival of music at UQ St Lucia! Culminating in a rare opportunity to hear Terry Riley’s pulsating minimalist masterpiece In C, alongside George Gershwin's beloved Rhapsody in Blue, the festival will feature diverse music from Mozart to the music of 2024 in venues across campus. This festival will traverse the spectrum from sultry Iberian melodies accompanied by 8 cellos, dynamic percussion, thrilling Brass, and collectives of pianists, flautists, composers and singers.

Please join us for a roundtable discussion on climate justice featuring presentations by key thinkers working in Brazil, Africa, India, and the Pacific. Drawing from diverse disciplinary perspectives, this discussion is intended to create space for reflection on some of the challenges and opportunities for centring justice in responses to the climate crisis.

Experts will explore and debate how scholars can conduct research around peacebuilding in authoritarian regimes at the 2024 School of Political Science and International Studies (POLSIS) Roundtable.

“From Star Wars to Marvel to the Oscars: Blockbuster Aesthetics and Special/Visual Effects” examines the unspoken standards of realism in blockbuster films. It challenges the traditional view of realism as mere perceptual mimicry, revealing it as a historical construct shaped by Industrial Light and Magic (ILM). This talk examines the central role of ILM in constructing and propagating our contemporary notion of photorealism across not just cinema but moving image capture realms more broadly.
